Project in the Tens of Millions of Dollars Progressing at Charles Pointe as Groundbreaking Ceremony Held

By Jeff Toquinto on June 05, 2025

The healthcare industry in Bridgeport took another big step forward Wednesday as Vandalia Health Mon Harrison Neighborhood Hospital officially acknowledged the start of their multi-million-dollar project with a groundbreaking event.

Officials from the hospital community were joined by local, Harrison County, and state officials at the event held at Charles Pointe Crossing. The 3-acre site where the new 40,000 square foot hospital representing a nearly $30 million investment will be located just past where Menards is situated.

Wednesday’s ceremony took place on almost what would have been the three-year anniversary (July 18, 2022) of when Mon Health System announced it had filed a formal application for a Certificate of Need to build and operate a new state-of-the-art small format hospital. Although there were multiple issues that needed to be overcome, all systems are a go as work has been full throttle since the City of Bridgeport approved a building permit.

“It’s been a long time coming,” said David Golberg, President and CEO of Mon Health System.

Goldberg said although there were hurdles that needed cleared to get to the point of arriving at Charles Pointe, he said no matter what happened the plan was to have a presence in Harrison County.

“Let me be very clear, we were never not not coming to Harrison County,” he said. “We looked for other options when we didn’t think the land may not work itself out, but Dave Rasmey, our (Vandalia Health) CEO was adamant. We have a certificate of need approved, we’re coming to Harrison County, people have asked for us to come, and we’re coming.”

Goldberg said the first choice was always Charles Pointe. He said state economic officials, the bond holders, and property owners were able to resolve their issues that led to the property being available for the work that is taking place now.

“We are a few months behind where we wanted to be, but (General Contractor) March-Westin and the team are going to catch up,” Goldberg continued. “We’re going to be able to open in the summer of 2026.”

The Chief Administrative Officer heading up Mon Harrison Neighborhood Hospital is one familiar with the area. Christopher Edwards, DO, who will serve as the facility’s Chief Administrative Officer, was born and raised in Harrison County and is an alumnus of Washington Irving High School.

“As someone who grew up right here in Harrison County, I couldn’t be prouder to see this project take shape. We know from experience that neighborhood hospitals can make a big impact – offering fast, expert care in a setting that feels more personal and accessible,” said Edwards.

Edwards knows a little more about the neighborhood hospital concept than most. He has overseen the same duties at the Mon Marion Neighborhood Hospital that opened roughly three years ago.

One of the individuals that was extremely happy to see Edwards, Golberg, Ramsey, and a host of other Mon Health officials on hand was Jamie Corton. Corton, President and CEO of Genesis Partners, was praised, along with his wife Jennifer, by Mon Health officials for donating the three-acre parcel that allowed the process to get started.

“Today is wonderful. We’re glad to have such a state-of-the-art hospital coming here,” said Corton. “We couldn’t be happier for everyone from the county to the city. It’s all worthwhile.”

The new hospital will cover two floors with the second floor essentially shell space. It will be in place for future expansion.

On the first floor, there will be multiple services. Among those that will be offered are a full-service emergency department with eight treatment rooms; 10 private inpatient rooms for short-stay hospital care; advanced imaging including CT, MRI, ultrasound, X-ray, and echocardiography; on-site pharmacy and lab services.

Last week, Charles Pointe also welcomed Community Care of West Virginia to its development located off Jerry Dove Drive. United Hospital Center’s campus is also found off the same roadway.
